NEW YORK, Sep. 1, 2010 – Yesterday local sponsors and supporters of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) presided over the NASDAQ Stock Market Closing Bell ceremony in celebration of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5-6.
Remarks were made by WWOR-TV My9 News Anchor Brenda Blackmon and WWOR-TV My9/WNYW FOX 5 Sports Anchor Russ Salzberg, both of whom will host the New York broadcast of 2010 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, and Vice President Transaction Services at NASDAQ OMX, Mary McDermott-Holland.
Appearances were made by FOX 5 business anchor Lisa Murphy and Good Day traffic reporter Ines Rosales. Sponsors and guests in attendance included Café Metro, Columbia University Medical Center, ERA, Grubb & Ellis, Knight Capital Markets, Macquarie Group, MDA's A Taste of Down Under, MDA's An Evening of Hope and Dreams, MDA's Muscle Team, MDA's Seasons of Hope, MDA's Wings Over Wall Street, Standard Oil, The Atlantic Club Manasquan/Red Bank and UFOLI.
The Closing Bell ceremony was broadcast live on NASDAQ’s MarketSite Tower located at 43rd and Broadway and was broadcast on: Bloomberg, CNBC, CNBC Asia, CNBC India, Itsaboutfinance.com, BNN and Fox Business Network
NASDAQ has joined with MDA to promote the Telethon for several years. The national Telethon broadcast will originate live from the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas on Sept. 5-6, and can be seen locally on WWOR-TV, My9 beginning at 9 p.m. ET on Sept. 5.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association, which is the first nonprofit organization to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Medical Association (“for significant and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of humanity”), also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
