NEW YORK, Sep.1 – The Muscular Dystrophy Association in the Metro NY will broadcast its annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon beginning September 5th at 9pm from Metropolis Studio in New York.
With co-hosts, entertainers and friends by his side, legendary entertainer Tony Orlando will again take the New York stage this weekend for the local broadcast which will air on WWOR-TV My 9. Under Orlando’s enthusiastic guidance in 2009, the tri-state area pulled together to raise $5.6 million and helped to drive the national Telethon total to over $60 million.
Tony will be joined by co-hosts WWOR-TV My9 News Anchor Brenda Blackmon and WWOR-TV My9/WNYW FOX 5 Sports Anchor Russ Salzberg on the live local broadcast, which will run from 9pm, Sunday September 5th until 7pm on Monday, September 6th.
The New York Telethon broadcast will present great entertainment again this year, including the Lefty Brothers Band, Connie Francis, Kenton Rogers & Choir, Laurie Berkner, Lisa Scinta, Martha Reeves, Michael Feinstein, Oro Solido, Ron Dante, Ryan Star and visits from MDA friends and supporters including Ines Rosales, Z100 personality Trey Morgan, Tony Lo Bianco, John Ciarcia and many more!
Legendary entertainer and MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis will be headlining the star-studded television program from Las Vegas that’s expected to be watched by some 40 million Americans, thanks to the “Love Network” of more than 170 television and cable stations broadcasting the show Sept. 5 and 6. Millions more worldwide will see the show live via the Internet at www.mda.org, courtesy of RealNetworks.
Lewis will be assisted by a cadre of extraordinary Telethon co-hosts including Alison Sweeney (host of NBC’s “Biggest Loser” and “Days of our Lives” star); Nancy O’Dell, Emmy-winning entertainment personality, author and entrepreneur; independent producer, and Emmy-winning entertainment journalist Jann Carl.
“There’s nothing like our Telethon,” said Lee Miller, longtime Telethon producer. “Every hour offers moments you’ll remember for the whole year. We produce the equivalent of an entire television season in one weekend, and you simply can’t find a better live television show that marries an outstanding network feed with lively local television segments.”
Social media followers of MDA’s Twitter, Facebook and YouTube sites will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the show during the broadcast.
